KS3 Boys’ Hockey Team – County Champions!

On Friday after school the KS3 boys’ hockey team became County Champions! They defeated Lucton School 3-0 in an engaging and competitive final. The game started off nervously for both teams with a great deal of the play being in the centre of the pitch. Perhaps the players had too much adrenalin running through their systems and as a few errors crept in.  JMHS settled quickest and began to make a few moves on the Lucton goal.  A long corner saw Oli Tasker feed the ball through to Bruno Recordon who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper’s left boot and into the corner to open the scoring, JMHS 1-0.  JMHS then dominated the rest of the first half, so much so that Fraser in goal did not have a save to make. Following a rousing team talk by Miss Windsor and some determined words from Oli, it was time for the second half.

Again JMHS had a couple of early chances and began to stamp their authority on the game. Some sensational skills from Bruno in the D drew a foul and therefore a short corner. Sam T slapped the ball in for Bruno to ghost in at the far post to touch the ball home, JMSH 2-0.  More industry for Oli and Jude in the middle of the pitch and some strong defending from the increasingly confident Tom and Will, meant that Lucton were never really in the game. In the dying minutes some amazing quick and skilful stick work from Oli, saw him glide through the heart of Lucton defence effortlessly and slide the ball into the goal with consummate ease for a well-deserved individual goal and our third.

Our sincere thanks goes to Herefordshire Hockey for providing an umpire and the medals for both teams at the end of the game, Lucton for being such wonderful sporting and competitive opponents, parents and students who came to watch, the JMHS players who were great ambassadors for the school and the game of hockey, and of course, to Miss Windsor and especially Miss Limbrick who have worked tirelessly to  develop hockey at JMHS and from whom the boys have learnt a great deal.
