Students to Perform in Requiem for Aleppo

Over the last month four pupils from John Masefield High School and three pupils from St Mary’s have been taking part in composition workshops run by a local female composer, Liz Johnson. This is part of a project whereby Liz is composing a piece called ‘Requiem for Aleppo’ for local musicians and professional soloists to raise awareness of the plight of Syrian refugees. The piece will also include first hand accounts of what it is like to be a refugee.

Pupils have been experimenting with new and original composition techniques and will perform their compositions as part of the requiem in the concert on 2nd April at Colwall Church alongside Colwall Church Choir, Colwall Primary school choir and professional musicians including the principal Violist of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Two of our pupils will also sing a duet that Liz has composed as part of the piece. The concert will be free with a retiring collection for refugees.
