Oxford University Target Shadowing Scheme

At the end of February, two Y12 students were successful in their application to spend a day at Oxford University as part of their Target Shadowing Scheme.

Emily Warmington shadowed a second year Medicine student and went to a first year lecture on Cell Types; she then spent some time looking around the Medical Sciences building and then went to a second year lecture on the Hallmarks of Cancer. Emily said “whilst this was extremely challenging, it was nonetheless enjoyable and I left with more ideas of further reading that could enhance my future applications and knowledge”. In the afternoon Emily enjoyed a tour of some of the beautiful colleges of Oxford, and attend a Q&A session. She said: “it was a very helpful and informative day, and I would definitely recommend it to any future students interested in applying”.

Emma Warren by contrast shadowed a first year Music student from Brasenose College. In the morning she was given a tour of the University (particularly the Music department) and attended a lecture on Orlando di Lasso, a 16th century composer. After lunch in the Hertford College Halls she then enjoyed a tour of Oxford followed by an admissions talk and a Q&A session with current students. Emma said:  “I really enjoyed the experience and found it interesting to visit the university during a normal day, to get a better idea of what it’s like to study there”.
