YEAR 7 COUNTY FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS!

It gives us great pleasure to announce that our Y7 football team are COUNTY CHAMPIONS! In a pulsating game at Edgar Street yesterday evening, they faced a very skilful and resilient team in St Marys. It was the cliched ‘game of two halves’ with JMHS dominating the first half. Fin Skidmore heading home about 12 minutes in from a corner with Elliot Potter adding another afterwards. In between, Eliiot’s searing pace was causing problems for the St Marys defence as were Jack McBride’s deft touches and flicks into his path and Charlie Patterson’s inch perfect passes. Reece Potter defended stoutly and made a number of crucial interceptions too.
In the second half, we were under a great deal of pressure from the start and conceded a goal from a corner. That was followed by a St Mary’s equaliser from a penalty and it was time to batten down the hatches. Arthur Zenihov made a number of fine saves and his good work was continued in goal by Logan Dawe – both of whom kept us in the game when St Mary’s looked rampant and sure to pinch the winner. And so it was to penalties! This was a tense affair and not good for the heart rate! However, Arthur bravely stepped up and slotted in his attempt and then seconds later saved one to mean that JMHS were to be crowned champions. Amid understandably wild and raucous celebrations, our players very respectfully controlled their emotions to shake hands with their opponents and this encapsulates all that the PE staff and I try and achieve – playing the game competitively and fairly but with the upmost respect for opponents and officials. It was wonderful to see.

The squad in full was: Arthur Zenihov, Reece Potter, Kris Kalva, Joe Barnes, Fin Skidmore, Charlie Patterson, Max Chard, Elliot Potter, Logan Dawe, Noah Jones, Spencer Atkins, Callum Cale, Gregor Anderson Mead and Jack McBride all of whom played their part.

My thanks goes out to the parents and carers for their support, not just on the night but throughout the school year.
