Another successful KS1 Primary Dance Festival at JMHS!

On Friday 27th April we welcomed 184 Key stage 1 Primary students from five of our local Primary schools. They joined us to participate in our annual Key stage 1 Dance Festival where we performed, taught, shared and celebrated Dance.

This popular event was eagerly anticipated by our Y9 Dance students, who helped to run this years festival. The Y9’s were nervous at first but thoroughly enjoyed taking part and working with the young Primary groups and performing with them on stage.

This year the festival was opened with an exciting performance from our A level dancers followed by a whole class performance by the Y9’s themselves of ‘Come Alive’ from the Greatest Showman. The Y9 dancers then went on to deliver a dance workshop to all 184 Primary students and taught them a part of their ‘Come Alive’ dance.

The festival concluded with a fantastic sharing of dance work created in the workshops as well as dances that some of the schools had prepared for the festival in their own schools.

We have had some lovely feedback from some of the schools that participated in the festival:

“I just wanted to say how fantastic the Primary Dance Festival was again this year. It was so well organised and thought out, making it really easy for us. The students all showed great confidence and leadership when working with our children. The performances were amazing as always, inspiring our pupils- they can’t wait to get to JMHS to do it themselves!”

We look forward to running the event again next year and continuing to inspire young people to dance.
