It’s been an incredible year for rock and roll at JMHS – season two has surpassed all expectations! Our senior rock band, aka Counterpoint, having formed only last year, were set the lofty challenge of securing a gig at Lakefest this summer. With the need for original songs (written, performed and produced by themselves) for this challenge, they unveiled their first original track, ‘Trapped‘, when winning the Ledbury’s Got Talent final in March.
The ‘Road to Lakefest’ competition beckoned – Counterpoint’s first official video of Trapped securing passage through the first round and into the top 30 (the only school-age band up against seasoned, adult competitors!) and with community social media support from friends, peers, staff, governors and our MP Ellie Chowns (who was a guest judge at Ledbury’s Got Talent), Counterpoint secured their position in the semi-final. The semi-final was held at Cheltenham Cider Festival and Counterpoint’s 20-minute set, including 2 original songs and classic covers including Parklife, astounded the festival goers.
Although the band just missed out on the final, they have received some great feedback, learned a great deal and will now be playing the Road to Lakefest tent at Lakefest itself on Friday 8 August. They will play a 30-minute set at 5.30pm, warming the festival up ready for Pixie Lott and Groove Armada later that day! If you can attend, your support would be greatly appreciated!
Fin R, Year 10 student at JMHS, will also be there, as an official Lakefest photographer, so smile for the camera and have a great time.
Look out for further success next year, with exciting plans for Counterpoint and with our Junior Rock Band hot on their heels!
Thanks to all those who have supported us this year! Rock on!
