Year 9 students recently enjoyed an exciting and inspiring STEM Experience Day at the Williams Racing Formula 1 headquarters, organised by our Vocational Faculty, giving them a unique insight into how science, technology, engineering and maths are used in a real-world, high-performance environment.

During the visit, students took part in a range of hands-on activities designed to showcase the wide variety of careers involved in Formula 1. They learned how subjects studied in school link directly to cutting-
edge engineering, data analysis, design, and problem-solving within a global motorsport team.
Students were guided by knowledgeable and enthusiastic members of the Williams Racing team, who shared their own career journeys and explained how teamwork, creativity and resilience are just as important as technical skills. The interactive sessions encouraged students to think critically, ask questions, and apply their learning in practical challenges.
The visit also included a fascinating tour of the onsite museum, giving students a chance to get up close and personal with some of their iconic Formula 1 cars and the team’s incredible racing history. One of the standout moments for many students (and staff members alike) was the Esports simulator lounge, where students experienced the technology behind virtual racing and got an insight into how data, reaction time and precision all play a crucial role both on and off the track.

The trip was not only highly informative but also incredibly motivating. Many students left feeling inspired to pursue STEM subjects further and gained a clearer understanding of the exciting career opportunities available within engineering and technology-based industries.
We would like to thank Williams Racing for hosting such a well-organised and engaging experience. It was a fantastic opportunity for our Year 9 students and a trip that they will remember for a long time.
